In accordance with the European recommendation regarding the reduction and disposal of waste undesirable emissions, bottom and lateral discharges of toxic and explosive fluids and liquefied gas is forbidden. In this case, it is necessary to use submersible pumps.
There are many applications for submersible pumps, on all “stored” fluids.
- PUMPING RESTRICTIONS FOR SUBMERSIBLE PUMPS:
For this kind of applications, a classic installation consists of a shaft line pump where the hydraulic parts are submerged in the tank whereas the motor is above the mounting plate.
The shaft length varies from a few to a dozen of meters depending on the tank’s height. The shaft guidance is therefore complex to realize in terms of implementation.
The various intermediate bearings required for this installation are frequently the origin of reliability problems.
The sealing between the motor and the mounting plate generates possible failures.

Due to its construction, the canned motor pump unit is completely submerged and hung below the mounting plate.
The main advantages of these pumps are the elimination of the long shaft line and the dynamic sealing.
Whatever the depth of the tank, the rotating parts will have reduced dimensions. The failure rate of these pumps is reduced, thus reducing maintenance costs while increasing their service life.
The submersible pump is typically mounted on an existing tank, but it is also possible to build a machine with a barrel.
